An ABRSM International Undergraduate Scholarship Recipient in 2017, Melody Thong (b.1998) graduated with a Masters of Music in Performance from the astounding Guildhall School of Music in and Drama in 2022; and graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Honours) from the prestigious Royal Northern College of Music in 2021. Melody received her early violin education at the age of six at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Special Young Talents) and graduated from School of the Arts, Singapore (SOTA) with the International Baccalaureate Career- Programme (Music). 

A highly sought violinist in Singapore, Melody debuted as a soloist at the age of 18 with the Singapore National Youth Orchestra (SNYO). She represented Singapore at the 31st Toyota Youth Orchestra (Okinawa), Malaysia Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (KL), Indiana University Jacobs School of Music (USA), Amadeus Vienna School of Music (Europe) and Young Euro Classic (Germany). She was also chosen to perform side-by-side with Hallé orchestra and the LSO philharmonic orchestra in United Kingdom. Melody also performed for the Hungarian and Brazilian Embassy in London where she was the soloist in one of the performance. 

Melody has won multiple competitions and has been an active performer throughout the years. She has performed with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Children Choirs Experience Day and Young Musician's Foundation Orchestra. Her accolades include: Winner of 2016 SNYO Concerto Competition, Appointed 2nd Violin Principal of SNYO (2015-6), Excellence Award at the  Youth Division of the Raffles International Violin Competition, SOTA's Outstanding Performance Award for Chamber Music, SOTA's Outstanding Performance Award for Solo Instrumental Studies, Concert Mistress of SOTA's and RGPS's String Ensemble. Melody was also featured in a Mediacorp channel 5 television programme 'On the Red Dot - Youth by Youth'. This programme followed the lives of several young Singaporeans, celebrating their talent, resilience and hard work as they pursue their dreams.

Melody’s teaching approach has been shaped by her experiences in pedagogy training and observations in both the RNCM young strings and Guildhall Junior School. She believes that every child blossoms in a unique way and have different learning abilities. She also focus on the holistic well being and personal growth of each child. Melody is a dedicated teacher who would think of different methods and approach to teach every child with materials made personally by her. With this, her students have since growth in their behaviour and personality; instill preservance, self confidence and developed critical listening ear. Additionally, she also incorporates teachings from Kodaly and Dalcroze. In the UK, she also works at classroom teaching for secondary schools where she teaches the IB programme. 

Besides her solo engagements, Melody is a passionate chamber musician and enjoys working and collaborating with others. She also enjoys teaching and nurturing young children, while giving back to the community.  She is consistently looking to improve her teaching to pursue her passion for teaching young children.
